Artist statement:

What a beast this life can be while surviving as a woman, an artist or simply amongst other humans wrestling with their own beasts. Repose captures a moment of tranquillity after working hard to be ‘relevant and productive’ during the pandemic. There is time here for renewal and quietude before, once again, we start wrestling with the beast that is the human condition. Australian natives overlay the orange tree from my childhood in South Africa. 25 years in each country has taught me a lot about the inventive concoctions needed to evolve a life.

Geelong Gallery acknowledges the Traditional Owners of the lands on which the Gallery and its collections are located, the Wadawurrung People of the Kulin Nation. We pay our respects to all Elders, past, present and emerging.
