Statement:
Greg Creek’s practice represents a political perspective on personal and public histories, engaging narrative, allegory and satire in large painting, drawing and installation projects.
Diecast–bride painting manifests figures in various ways, using body prints, portrait heads, screen prints, painterly gestures, stains and scumbles within abstracted environments. The painted canvas is a composite: collaged so that the surface reads as a unified picture plane, and the rear, as a repaired site. Here, looming circular geometry and a flowering plant form emerging from a sheer cliff face flank the passengers of an open top car. The young woman, who derives from a 1960s Czech comic film ‘Daisies’, glances sideways with her tongue out. We wonder how she controls her destiny.
