Artist statement:

Aunty’s Bag began as an exercise to explore new shapes and bright colours, which then evolved into an exploration of contemporary ways to acknowledge culture. The initial concept was to create a vase that would take shape naturally, with no interference from myself. But as the piece came together, I wanted it to be more glamorous, where the acknowledgement of culture was more intentional. By turning the piece into a bag, it pays homage to every Aunty that carries themselves with pride in their culture. This piece speaks to the traditional and contemporary ways, and the old traditions that are getting lost in an increasingly modernising world.
