Artist statement:

I am in an experimental phase in my practice. Working fast and small, I am allowing the actual painting process to be a responsive discovery of the final work. In trying to de-emphasise the initial visual ‘idea’, I am incorporating more of my ‘failed’ photos. Despite the more intuitive process, this work is indelibly impressed with motifs which betray my preoccupation with imaging and representation. I love windows that are taped over from the inside. It is a paradoxical gesture: framing the window’s withdrawal from displaying, or showing its abdication from showing. This can be a metaphor for painting. I like the conceptual effect of this metaphor being redoubled by being painted, drawing attention to a concatenation of mediations that have occurred prior to this mediation.
