Inspired by contemporary artist Elizabeth Gower, Pattern Play exploress geometry to create striking optical patterns with colour, texture and photographs.
Gower is one of Australia’s most acclaimed contemporary artists with a career spanning forty years. Using hand-cut remnants from advertising materials and everyday products adhered to drafting film, canvas, boards and walls, the artist creates a multitude of designs that reference patterns from the natural world and the built environment.
Inspired by this process, the Pattern Play application simulates the artist’s labour-intensive processes to create unique digital patterns which were incorporated into a collaborative artwork, on display in the Gallery for the duration of the exhibition.
